
Overview
Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) is a not-for-profit private research university in Malaysia known for providing affordable, quality higher education with strong emphasis on academic excellence, research, and global engagement. It offers a wide range of programmes from Foundation to Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD levels across disciplines such as business, engineering, sciences, information technology, creative arts, social sciences, medicine and health sciences. UTAR also hosts a multicultural student body from numerous countries, enriching campus life and preparing students for careers in a globalised world.
History
UTAR was officially established on 13 August 2002 under the UTAR Education Foundation as a private university with an initial intake of just 411 students. Since then, the university has grown significantly with two main campuses in Kampar (Perak) and Bandar Sungai Long (Selangor) and an enrolment of around 20,000 students. Over its history, UTAR has expanded its academic offerings, developed research centres, and pursued collaborations with international institutions to strengthen its educational and research impact.

Location
UTAR’s main campuses are located in Kampar, Perak—a scenic university town—and Bandar Sungai Long, Selangor within the Klang Valley region, offering students access to both a close-knit campus community and the economic and cultural resources of Greater Kuala Lumpur.
